SELECTION OF THE NEW CHURCH PRESIDENT

The First Presidency is calling a special World Conference for June 2-5, 2005, in Independence, Missouri.

The legislative agenda for the Conference will be (1) the selection of a new president of the church, (2) reorganization of the quorum of the First Presidency, (3) any additional related World Church leadership changes, (4) setting the dates for the next World Conference to follow the special World Conference, and (5) other necessary actions if the subsequent World Conference is not held in 2006.

The special World Conference will provide for the ordination of the new president of the church and the calling of other World Church officers.

The Presidency will suggest that the next World conference following the special Conference will be March 24-31, 2007. If accepted, the 2007 Conference will replace the April 2006 World Conference which was authorized by the 2004 World Conference.

A discernment process for selecting the new president of the church will be led by the Council of Twelve and will include particiaption by the First Presidency, Presiding Bishopric, Council of Presidents of Seventy, the Presiding Evangelist and the President of the Quorum of High Priests. It is anticipated that a name will be shared with the church before April 1, 2005.
